Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party is a great special event hosted at the Magic Kingdom Park.  On party nights, the Magic Kingdom closes early for "regular" guests and has exclusive events for party goers to immerse themselves in the Halloween spirit.

What kind of things can you do at the party?

You can dress in costume (and it's not just for the kids either!).

You can trick-or-treat for candy.  And this is not that yucky Halloween candy that no one wants.  This is the good stuff.  Like M&Ms.  Snickers.  And Twix.

You can meet characters.  And this is one of the really special things about the Halloween Party.  Typically, you could meet Mickey Mouse. But on party nights, you can meet Mickey dressed up for Halloween.  Typically you can meet Princess Aurora.  But on party nights, you can meet both Aurora and her prince.  Typically you can meet Terk from the Tarzan movie.  But on party nights, you can meet Terk.  And Jane.  And Tarzan (in his loin cloth :-) ).  Typically you can meet Snow White.  But on party nights you can meet Snow White and ALL seven dwarfs.

Speaking of characters, on party nights, you'll also be able to mix and mingle with the villains.

And you can go to dance parties with Stitch (dressed as Elvis) and Chip and Dale.

There is a special "Boo-to-You" parade performed twice each night (if you or your little ones can stay awake, the second parade is usually much less congested).

Find your spot pretty early - not only to find a spot - but you want to be in place when the Headless Horseman begins the parade.  Listening to the sounds of the horse as it trots across the cobblestones of Main Street always gives me chills (and one year, I WILL manage to get a good picture!).

Between parades there is also a special version of the fireworks show just for the party - "Hallowishes."

So we have candy.  And characters.  And costumes.  A special parade.  Special fireworks.  Dancing.  What else??

Rides!  Disney sells a limited number of tickets to the Halloween party - so the park does not have nearly the number of guests as are there during the day.  The rides, for the most part, you will be able to just walk right on.   There will be lines - for candy and most especially for characters.

Here are the dates for the 2012 Halloween party:
 -- September 11, 14, 18, 21, 25, 28, and 30
-- October 4, 5, 8, 11, 12, 14, 16, 18, 21, 23, 25, 26, 28, 30, and 31
-- November 2

Prices for the event will vary - there are discounts for advance purchase - and prices tend to rise on weekends in October and the closer you get to Halloween.

My opinions on the party:
I think it's a great night.  You can see the park all decorated for Halloween - but the exclusive characters, parades and fireworks for the evening make it a worthwhile event.  However, I would not want to go on a night that has sold out or that is raining.  If you HAVE to attend, buy your tickets now - otherwise, I'd wait til closer to your trip to buy tickets.  You could wait to see weather forecasts (and still be able to buy tickets in advance for the discount) - and if it's sold out - you really don't want to be there anyway!

So...what about you?  Have you been to the Halloween party?  What was your favorite part?
